UAA meets Ministry of Finance on tax issues

The Uganda Advertising Association  accompanied by Uganda Media Owner’s Association , Rural Broadcaster’s Association , and National Association of Broadcasters, attended a meeting at the Ministry of Finance in response to address tax-related issues affecting the media and advertising agencies in Uganda.

Some of the key issues discussed included:

  1. The implementation of a 10% withholding tax on commissions paid to advertising agencies, effective from July 1st, 2020.
  2. The mandate for all VAT-registered companies to use the EFRIS system, effective from January 1st, 2021 among others.

While these initiatives aim to enhance tax compliance, they have posed significant challenges to the operational dynamics of our industry.

Nicholas Kwehayo, representing the Tax Policy Department at the Ministry of Finance, shared insights and recommendations. He suggested engaging with the Uganda Revenue Authority to clarify and potentially revise some of its policies to facilitate smoother operations for the advertising industry.
